- Extending Wifi capabilities with a second Asus router with the ethernet adapter and cat 6 cableIn Installation Tips·March 19, 2023First off thanks for any help and advice. Im looking to purchase Starlink but I'm not sure it will work in my situation.. Please let me explain.. So I'm in an excellent area for the Starlink service (Newfoundland) my property has 2 buildings about 100 plus feet apart.. The house(building 1) and we have a studio(building 2) behind at a much higher elevation. when I test for obstructions with the app I have alot of trees blocking my signal at the House so the app tells me to find a new location.. When I test on the Roof of the studio the app confirms its an excellent location.. My question is if I setup the starlink system at the studio and purchase the ethernet adapter could I run cat 6cable in a pvc pipe down to my house and connect it to the current Asus router I have.. I would want to leave the Starlink Wifi router setup in the studio for coverage up there and have the Asus router cover the house for its Wifi needs.. I'm currently running very slow DSL at my house and have a Asus router setup handling all the devices and WiFi needs. The DSL router is still enabled but has a device limit.. The DSL info I'm providing is probably unnecessary but just trying to give you some insite to what I have.. Also on my current setup I have very little WiFi strength in my studio even with an extender up there.. This is why I'm hoping to run the cat 6 cable to have equal performance at both locations. Thanks again for any help before I pull the trigger and buy $800 Worth of starlink hardware, pipe and cat 6 cable. Anthony.1878
- payment options for starlinkIn General Discussions·November 17, 2022Hi everyone, pretty well ready to order Starlink for home but have a question regarding options for paying for the service. I know that the initial payment requires a credit card but preferrably I would love to set it up so that all future payments could automatically come from my bank account. Could someone that has an active account possibly take a look in the online account access to see if that is a possible option.. Thanks in advance for the help. Cheers Terry Vanderhoof, BC182279

- Using Conduit To Protect CableIn Installation Tips·June 23, 2022This is a great idea, Make sure to get a large enough diameter conduit to get the Starlink connector through, 2" ID gives lots of room. Cover the connector when fishing cable through with tape to prevent damage.182491

- Mobile Starlink? What did I just see?In General Discussions·August 7, 2022I just saw the following trailer being towed in Federal Way, Washington (I-5). The top of the trailer is one large set of Solar panels, and the Starlink was on the side. (see pictures) Of course my imagination was hoping that it was a Mobile Starlink Test vehicle, but honestly I could be way off. It was interesting though. Any thoughts on what it was?3241
- Don't chop down all your trees. Just use one.In Installation Tips·October 25, 2022I am an arborist and wisp installer, and when people first started getting their systems I have been getting all kinds of calls about clearing droves of trees for starlink. And I am not seeing enough post showing people there are better options. Just use one tree to put it on rather then cutting them all down. I would be happy to answer any questions and walk you through mounting in a tree, running wire, extending wire to any distance you need. You are not stuck to the 150ft the stock router gets you. There are a ton of options to go beyond this to almost any distance. Don't be afraid to ask me any questions about hardware or how to use it. If you are uncomfortable doing it yourself see if you can find a local wisp that can set you up with an installer. If you are in my area I cover between Portland and Seattle. Just look up Nelson White Arborists.17836
- Starlink wifi not working but ethernet isIn Troubleshooting·September 13, 2022Hi all, I'm new to the forum. Over the past two days our Starlink internet has not been functioning properly. We have gen 2 mounted to our roof without any obstruction and use the ethernet adapter to connect to an unmanaged switch, which connects to our wireless access points and various plugs around the house. As of two days ago, wifi (both from the Starlink router itself or our WAPs) doesn't work properly for most devices (including iPhone, iPad, android phone, iMac) but seems to work okay to a MacBook Pro, oddly enough. I also get mostly consistent internet with good speed to my iMac, which is connected via the ethernet. I've restarted every device from the Starlink hardware (hard reset) to my switch, WAPs, and individual devices. The Starlink app says "online" and doesn't show outages or obstruction, it just doesn't result in my phone having an internet connection and my wifi setting on my iPhone usually say "no internet connection" under the wifi network in use. If it were just my wifi from the 3rd party equipment I'd assume it's something with that setup, but that shouldn't impact the wifi from the Starlink router itself, which is just as problematic. So to my limited knowledge of these things, it seems like we are getting good data to the dish but having issues with getting it to most devices. Does that suggest anything to trouble shoot? I'm still waiting on a response from Starlink support. THANKS!!171353
- Starlink Gen 2 cable extensionIn 2nd Gen DishyMay 16, 2022UPDATE: I went ahead and did it. REASON: My dish needed to be mounted on my garage roof since it has the clearest shot of the sky. It has an attic space that I had already run Cat6 cable from there to the center of my house where I have my Linksys Mesh Master router. PROCESS: I started by cutting my Starlink Cable (Cat5e shielded/grounded). I put a standard RJ45 (no ground) on both cut ends wired to B code. Put them in a coupler with a small jumper connecting the grounds. Plugged the router back in and it came back online. Speedtest was consistent with what I’d been getting. I then removed the ground, put the dish in Stow mode, it moved to Stow position, pulled it out of Stow mode and it moved to receive position and came back online. Speedtest stayed consistent. GROUND NOT NEEDED. FINISHED SETUP: Dish is on my garage roof. SLink cable comes in and couples to my Cat6 in the attic with a weather proof coupler. Cat6 couples back to Slink cable in front room of my house with a standard coupler that will snap into a wall plate that covers the wall box that the Cat6 comes to. This is the initial test of the coupler with the grounds disconnected. Weatherproof coupler in the attic. Simple coupler in front room. I‘m a network technician by trade which is why I had no problems with trying this. Remember, all connections are straight thru wired with B code. Technically any color sequence will work as long as it’s done the same on all connections.3
- Starlink Gen 2 cable extensionIn 2nd Gen DishyApril 5, 2022Hello Ron, we have done this a number of times now and had success with TP-Link, Linksys, D-Link and Ubiquiti. We haven't done a Netgear router yet (I do have one in my truck that has been waiting for hook-up) I think you will be just fine, I have seen others set them up and claim they work fine and they are a major brand. My only suggestion is to maybe think of upgrading to an AX router instead of AC but this is really dependent on your situation as the AC routers are still really good. AX routers just deliver better bandwidth and connectivity.31

- Clay Roof Dish MountIn Installation Tips·April 23, 2022This was a more difficult installation then the usual. Both a clay roof and surrounded by tall trees. Its difficult to tell, but this Dishy has a perfectly clear line of view. We gave it some extra height to compensate for tree growth with a 6ft pole. We used rubber matting under the NPR(Non Penetrating Roof Mount) to help protect the roof. We used 6 cement blocks to weigh down the mount. We installed the cable down in through a roof vent into the attic, with 75Ft of cable in a large home, we had to make the most from what we had. We still have a few more things to do when we go back but we're happy with the outcome so far.31448
