The 2.4ghz network has a further reach meaning devices that are further away or have a lot of walls between the router and the device will be placed on this network, the downside to the 2.4Ghz is that it runs at 1/3rd the speed of the 5Ghz, so 5Ghz is ideal for heavy using devices.
