Starlink goes by grids for which something 6 miles away is still in the same grid. Shouldn't be a problem. There are a couple of web sites that do a grid overlay if you want to check it out. Just Google them.

You don't need the router or adapter. Just plug the ethernet cable into the power supply (provided with the kit) and direct to the gateway (Eero in my case). You don't get the full functionality of the App, but there's less to fuss with. I ran an extension from the power supply into the living room (repurposed and configured for RJ-45 ethernet Dishy 1 cable). The neat thing is the dish and power supply can get very cold without a problem. My garage drops below freezing in the winter. The router doesn't like the cold. If backup power is a concern, then a small UPS with a heater plugged into the non UPS port will keep everything warm enough until the generator kicks in. Size the UPS appropriately if it takes a while to get power going. Mine switches over in 7 seconds so no issue with a small UPS. UPS prevents Dishy reboot, connection, etc. Thermostat outlet to power a 80-150 watt heater is found at any Home Depot etc. I use a DIN rail heater available on Amazon.

First "the dish" is not a dish. It is a multiple phased array antenna. It has a lot of elements that are microchip controlled. At any given time, a group of elements are phased with each other to form a narrow beam that tracks a satellite going overhead. The antenna has multiple arrays that track other satellites passing overhead. The antenna stays in a fixed position while the electronics does the rest. As the view of the sky becomes more obstructed, the service drops increase in frequency and duration. Don't expect coverage in a forested campground site.

You can purchase additional mesh routers from Starlink. Like Eero, Orbi, etc. they expand on the area of coverage. I don't know how the Starlink unit compares to my Eero system, Also, I don't know if you can get into the system well enough to do the port forwarding, temporary stoppage of 5Ghz so you can add cameras, etc. Advise reading up and if necessary put in a service ticket to Starlink,

I use Nord VPN. Nord selects the best speed node. If you have some complete package like Norton 360, there's already a VPN in it. No particular preference otherwise. BTW, check out starlink.xs When you put your location in, it will tell you what POP is being used by your dish. You want one closest. If the POP being used is significantly further away than some closer to you, put in a service ticket to resolve.

The question would be with a RV account that's good for crossing into different Starlink grids, does Starlink continue to function for you going into Canada. VPN itself should be irrelevant. If you have connectivity, VPN should work fine. I use VPN at my fixed address which means I could move around in my grid no problem, but of course I don't.

Forgot to add you may need to reconnect each camera separately. That means turning the 5ghz network off if you can. Once the cameras are happy with the 2.4ghz, you can turn the 5 back on. I don't know how much you can change in the Starlink router as I have never used one.

I'd recommend ditching the Starlink router and going with a better mesh system. The gateway router plugs directly into the Starlink power supply. From there, you can add/space routers as needed. I have a spread that around 6 routers covers five acres. I have varied 2.4ghz smart sockets, cameras, etc. running fine.

Smart plugs are typically 2.4ghz. If you can't turn off the 5 ghz on your Starlink router for network linking, you are hosed. 5ghz can be turned back on when you finish Wemo installs. I have a variety of 2.4ghz stuff running on my Eero mesh system which connects directly to the Starlink power supply.

I'd ditch the Starlink router in favor of much better solutions, especially mesh. Use the jumper ethernet cable that connects to the power supply and feed your router direct. Cameras are typically 2.4ghz, so you need to turn the 5 ghz off at the router while you link them into your network. My system is the HP dishy direct to Eero gateway router. Cameras are mixed Eufy Base Station and wifi direct. All work well.

Just finished a few days ago. More average speed and fewer drops. Results will vary. We're out rural so don't have competition for satellites. If you want to see some tips, I posted separately my install.
