hello, i am looking into purchasing . I am a brand new user and it is available in my area.
The most important thing will the ability for me to use it in my RV at different locations.
I have seen many articles where there is a roaming flag that is now there and sometimes enabled.
I realize that more than likely, knowone can answer this. But before i drop $$$ it is worth asking..
So what are my chances that i will be able to use it other locations (of course if available) and that the roaming flag is enabled so i do not need to change my service address?
Here we go, Starlink portability is now an add on to your account. Just received this e-mail…
Hey Randy, so we had a chance to activated a 1st Gen Starlink outside of it's original cell location(Service Area). It did allowed us to activate, took about 1/2hr, and the roaming was turned to true...in the debug data, We used over the weekend at a few different places about 50 kilometers apart and it has been working at every local so far, without having to change any settings within the app, just place it down and within minutes you have 100Mbps plus....
Starlink is doing a double speak. They sign up billion dollar deals worh airlines, yet their loyal early clients Starlink will not support mobile location changes. Epic fail, IMO
This was the answer from Starlink when I inquired about mobile offerings...
Hello Randy, this is a great question that many would like to know the answer to. Although I’ve heard of people using this feature I have yet to come across a Starlink system that had roaming enabled…I asked in the forums and haven’t had anybody step forward and say theirs was enabled either.
I’ve submitted a ticket to Starlink to see if it’s possible to get are existing one activated but I’m waiting on a response. I’ve been trying to piece the clues together to see how this is done...this is what I’ve gathered so far.
Starlink is mute in this, there is nothing that I’ve found on their site saying this is an option.
The majority of ones that I’ve heard of activate their system outside of their living area…their new customer and it happens after the first update, maybe this triggers the roaming function to be true?
Unlike changing your service address they can move between open networks without the hassle.
When I hear back from Starlink I’ll definitely share there answer right away. Maybe somebody else in the forums has some more insight.
