This 65-year-old afraid-of-heights woman just mounted our new Dishy McFlatface on our roof. Whew! But what scares me more is the router set-up. I’m fairly tech-savvy and it looks pretty simple, but I have one issue I hope someone(s) can help me with.
We currently have older-generation (Gen4?) HughesNet. If Starlink doesn’t work for our forest home we’ll need to continue using HN and return the Starlink kit. (The roof-mount spot has the best field of view on our property, and I wasn’t able to use the Starlink app obstructions tool beforehand. But I’ve seen other users online with less open sky than we have and they still got a good signal.)
Starlink recommends that you change your SSID and password. I can certainly do that, but I am concerned that if this new system doesn’t work, I’ll then have difficulty reconnecting to the HughesNet modem. (I’m keeping their service until I know whether Starlink works.)
Will I be able to easily switch back to my previous SSID/password if I have to keep HughesNet? Or can I keep the new SSID/password and use it with my HT1100 modem? It was set up many years ago by a technician and I have no idea how it was done.
Alternatively, what if I don’t change the SSID/password until my testing is completed? Will that sharing confuse the Starlink and HughesNet systems, while they’re both operational?
Thanks!
Diana
